The Program

green_grass2There are three key parts to a healthy lawn:

  • Watering: Daily watering is not the answer. A good soaking of the lawn once or twice a week is the best. Get the water to the roots, shallow watering (daily short waters) does not help, but hurts.
  • Cutting: Lawns should be kept at 2.5 to 3 inches. Maybe a little high, but it works to thicken up the lawn. Never cut more than 1/3rd of the blade
  • Fertilizer: You have to feed your lawn regularly to help develop the roots and thicken the lawn. A thick and healthy lawn will be better able to fight off disease and insects while not giving weeds a place to take root.

U do it Lawns offers you a 4 step fertilizer program that in combination with proper watering and cutting will let you enjoy a healthy lawn this year.

  • 1st application: Spring fertilizer with weed preventer (April)
Corn Glutten meal is a 9-0-0 granular fertilizer which is truly a 100% natural pre-emergent weed seed germination inhibitor made with corn gluten. Corn Glutten can inhibit dandelion and large crabgrass seed germination when used in combination with a consistent lawn maintenance program.

Important note: Corn glutten suppresses all seeds from germinating, this includes grass seed. It is recommended that you wait at least 6 weeks after applying corn glutten before doing any over-seeding.

  • 2nd application: Late Spring Fertilizer (May-June)
A 25-1-5 granular fertilizer. 50% SCU with 15% organic matter. The high first number (nitrogen) will provide excellent top growth for the grass and give a lush green look. The 50% coating will allow the fertilizer to give a slow release of nutrients to the lawn
  • 3rd application: Summer Fertilizer (July-August)
A 15-1-5 granular fertilizer with 50% SCU and 15% organic matter. A reduced amount of nitrogen from spring (lower first number) so not to burn the lawn during the heat, but still promote top growth and greening
  • 4th application: Fall Fertilizer (September-October)
A 5-1-15 granular fertilizer. Promotes strong root development and provides for a greener lawn in early spring. Strong healthy lawns start at the roots.
